Your IELTS score can be accepted in US Universities!

IELTS   and   TOEFL   are   international standardized tests of the English language. They are  used  worldwide  by  universities, corporation and immigration departments to assess the English proficiency of non-native speakers of the language.

TOEFL  :  Test  of  English   as   a  foreign language or TOEFL was developed by ETS (Educational Testing Service). The score is given out of 120 and it remains valid for 2 years. It is an internet based test.

IELTS  : International English language Testing System or IELTS was developed by the British Council, IDP Education Australia and the Cambridge ESOL. The result is given out of 9 bands. And IELTS also remains valid for 2 years. It is a paper based test.

Most foreign universities prefers specific exams, however you need to understand the difference between preference and requirement. E.g. UK Universities prefer you to have an IELTS score, but most of them accept TOEFL if student has a decent score in it. At the other end similarly most US universities ask for TOEFL scores but a decent IELTS score will suffice.

IELTS and TOEFL both have similar modules in it like, speaking, listening, reading and writing. Both systems go through rigorous development processes and so your end result depends on your skills and the particular test given. However, the difference between TOEFL and IELTS is you get more American accents in TOEFL and in IELTS you hear more British accents in the speaking module.

Lastly, you also should not forget Embassy requirements, for example the Australian and New Zealand Embassies do not accept TOEFL scores.
