Education System in NZ
A bachelor’s degree in the country typically takes three years, and students can get an Honors degree after another year of study. Candidates can pursue a Master’s degree after completing their bachelor’s. Doctoral studies require either a Master’s degree or a Bachelor’s degree with Honors.
There are 10 levels of study in New Zealand schools and universities. The lowest level is a certificate and the highest is a doctoral degree.

- Postgraduate certificates and diplomas, and bachelor's degrees with honours are level 8

Universities prefer applicants with very good academic background and decent scores in TOEFL or IELTS for admission Postgraduate and Masters Programmes may vary between Faculties. For postgraduate applications where the student will be undertaking a thesis, a research proposal will be required

University Degrees from NZ$18,000 - NZ$25,000 per year for most under-graduate degrees

Accommodation and living expenses
Most higher educational institutions in the country have Halls of Residence. Rooms are available on a single or twin-sharing basis. Facilities such as laundry, lounge room, and dining hall are also available. Halls of residences provide a safe and secure environment and are generally available in the range of NZ$200 a week. Home stay accommodations are also available. In these types of accommodations, students get to live with a family in a residential house. Flats/independent accommodations are also available; these include one-bed room apartments to 4-5 bedroom flats. A prefixed amount has to be paid to the landlord before one can move in. This amount known as bond is the advance rent of 2-4 weeks, and is refundable. The total cost depends on each student spending habits. However a student should be able to live in New Zealand for a total cost of living of between NZ$8,000 and NZ$10,000 a year including accommodation, transport and entertainment.
All International students are allowed to work for 20 hours part-time per week, during college days and full-time during vacations, for the permitted duration of stay in New Zealand. New Zealand is the only country that provides a one-year job search visa, regardless of the course pursued by a student. Once you get a job, you can apply for two years of work permit, following which you can apply for permanent residency.
